Your online library experience is about to get better! Oak Park Public Library's new website will launch on December 15 with a new look, improved organization, and new features. Look to oppl.org for new technology learning opportunities, round-the-clock librarian chat service, the ability to track your interlibrary loan requests, more options for directly connecting with library staff, and much more to come! Oak Park Public Library will mark this achievement with treats and giveaways on Website Launch Day, Thursday, December 15 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm at the Main Library, 834 Lake Street. "I am thrilled with our new website," raves Executive Director Deirdre Brennan. "It's easy to use - intuitive, not jargon-y, and has a great look and feel. I know our community will be delighted and will be able to make even more use of our services as a result. This was a complex project and I'm really proud of our staff who made it happen."

"Our virtual presence is becoming a full-service library location just like our three physical locations," says Rebecca Teasdale, Assistant Director for Public Services and Programs. "You can check out great things to read, do research, talk to staff, and check your account all from your home or office. Our new website is the cornerstone of our virtual services - all of the ways that we serve Oak Park online. We look forward to adding even more services and features in the coming months."

"Our new website will be responsive as the community evolves, web technology progresses, and library services change," states Virtual Services Manager Anne Slaughter. "We'll continually make our website better - from making small tweaks to adding features on a rolling basis - incorporating community feedback and data from user testing. Rather than doing another major redesign in a few years, we're going into 'perpetual beta.'"

The new oppl.org is built using Drupal content management system, which will allow library staff to incorporate useful and exciting features more quickly and easily. Oak Park Public Library first implemented Drupal in 2010 to build the new teen website, opplteen.org. Because Drupal is a free, open-source content management system used by many other libraries, Oak Park Public Library expects to benefit from and facilitate the development of additional library-related tools.
