Why Go: Eat local with a special Earth Dinner menu featuring roasted Illinois asparagus, poached Wisconsin egg, La Quercia culaccia and Sarvecchio parmesan.

Why Go: Get up close and intimate with a lioness, a leopard and a cheetah at the debut of Disney's new nature movie, African Cats, which coincides with Earth Day. (Watch trailers)

PARTY FOR THE PLANET AT THE ZOO
When/Where: Begins 10 a.m. Saturday at the Brookfield Zoo, 8400 31st St. in Brookfield
Why Go: The zoo will highlight the plight of polar bears with a wealth of educational and fun activities. Participants will help create a huge sidewalk mural, take a pledge to go green and plant some vegetation.
Price: Child and senior, $9.50; all other $13.50

DIY FLOWER PLANTERS AT WONDERWORKS
When/Where: 4 p.m. Friday at , 5445 W. North Ave. in Oak Park.
Why Go: Kids can decorate their very own six-inch planter and plant with a selection of flowers to bring home.
Price: $5 donation; proceeds benefit the Wonder Works Organic Garden.
