Get Out: Knitting, Love, Heirlooms and More

INSPIRED KNITTING
When/Where: 7 p.m. Thursday at the Oak Park Public Library, Maze Branch
Why Go: 16 and older. Susan Strawn, professor of apparel design and merchandising at Dominican University and author of Knitting America will help lead participants as they explore the library's collection of knitting traditions from other cultures.
Price: Free

WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT
When/Where: Begins 6 p.m. Friday in Downtown Oak Park,
Why Go: A "celebration of art, life, love and culture," this downtown event will feature cameos from Casanova, Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare and more performing at local stores. Live music at local restaurants. More details. 
Price: Free to browse; movie is $5 

LEAPING INTO CHOCOLATE
When/Where: 6 p.m. Friday at Elizabeth Cheney Mansion220 N Euclid Ave. in Oak Park. 
Why Go: Kids ages 8-12 learn how to prepare chocolate mousse tarts and how to properly coat a variety of fresh fruit with three different types of chocolate.
Price: $35-40 

FAMILY HEIRLOOM OR FLEA MARKET FIND: WHAT'S IT WORTH?
When/Where: 10 a.m. Saturday at The Nineteenth Century Club178 Forest Ave. in Oak Park. 
Why Go: Certified appraisers will be on hand for the second coming of this event, where patrons can have jewelry, fine art, furniture (large pieces can be appraised from a set of photos from different angles), decorations, books, toys, comics and more for appraisal. Price: $5 admission' $15 per item appraised, with a three-item maximum.

THIS MUST BE THE BAND AT FITZGERALD'S
When/Where: 7 p.m. Saturday at FitzGerald's Nightclub 6615 Roosevelt Rd,
Why Go: It's a double whammy — the best Talking Heads cover band around plays to raise money for Feedback Music, a new Oak Park nonprofit music school for kids.

FRENCH CREOLE MARDI GRAS MUSIC
When/Where: 1:15 p.m. Monday at The Nineteenth Century Club178 Forest Ave. in Oak Park
Why Go: Creole music expert Dennis Stroughmatt will be fiddlin' and pickin' his way through a performance and lecture. 
Price: Free
