Man Charged After Holding Victim and Three Children at Gunpoint During Home Invasion, Police Report
Richard D. Woods, 25, has been charged with home invasion after police said he held a River Forest family at gunpoint during a burglary.
River Forest police reported today that they have arrested and charged a Lombard man with an armed home invasion that occurred in the evening of Sept. 26.
Police responded to a home on the 1400 block of Thatcher following a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred. The victim told police that two men had entered the home and held them and three children at gunpoint while the home was searched for valuables.
About a half hour later, police located Richard D. Woods, 25, of the 1100 block of south Finley in Lombard, about a block away from the crime scene. Woods was taken into custody without incident and later charged with Class-X felony home invasion.
Police said that the crime did not appear to be random and was not a part of any existing crime patterns in the area.
Deputy Chief Craig Rutz said that crimes of this nature are generally not random and that the target is often specific, but declined to give more information at this time. Police are still searching for the second suspect and said more information would be made available in days to come.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the River Forest Police Department at 708-366-7125.
