Maywood Murder Mystery
Chicago Magazine, WFLD-TV and the Better Government Association team up to offer analysis on the puzzling, unsolved murder of police officer Tom Wood.
In case you missed it, Chicago Magazine has published a compelling story on the unsolved murder of Maywood police officer Tom Wood.
Wood's 2006 murder was carried out, investigators believe, while the eight-year department veteran sat in the driver's seat of his police SUV parked in the 300 block of North Sixth Avenue. Here are reporters Robert Herguth and Dane Placko on the aftermath of Wood's death:
"What emerges is a sobering tale about a problem-plagued investigation at best and a possible cover-up at worst. Top leadership appears to have paid so little attention to Wood’s murder in recent years that neither Maywood’s chief of police, Tim Curry, nor its mayor, Henderson Yarbrough, and other village officials could answer many basic questions."
The entire tale can be read online at Chicago Magazine's website, and includes sidebars about the reward money in the case, the "sordid past and present" of the Maywood police department and the village's "political power couple, Mayor Henderson Yarbrough and his wife, state Rep. Karen Yarbrough.
Worth a read.
