Oak Park Native Cecily Strong Headed to 'Saturday Night Live'

The three new cast members for the 38th season of the show all have roots in the Chicago comedy group The Second City.

Oak Park native Cecily Strong is among the three new cast members joining the cast of “Saturday Night Live” as it kicks off its 38th season this Saturday night.

Strong is an alum of the Second City Training Center’s conservatory program, the Second City Touring Company and the cruise ship-based Second City Theatricals, as well as Chicago’s iO theatre, the Sun Times reported, while Celebuzz added that she has also worked with the group Virgin Daiquiri at Chicago’s “Improv Olympics.”

You can get a sample of Strong’s comedy in this parody infomercial, with Strong as “Karen Rigsby.” Strong also appears as the red-bloused businesswoman in this Second City sketch (warning: somewhat mature content) and can be heard, virtually entirely off-camera, in the short film “Break-ups: The Series.”

The other two new “SNL” cast members are Aidy Bryant and Tim Robinson, both also Second City veterans. The three cast members join as Andy Samberg, Kristen Wiig and Abby Elliott are leaving the show. (Speculation remains about the fate of Jason Sudeikis.)

The 38th season of “Saturday Night Life” debuts this Saturday with Family Guy and American Dad! creator Seth McFarlane hosting and Frank Ocean as musical guest.
