Oak Park Police Blotter: Guns Stolen from Home
Sink trashed at Barrie Center, capture leaves thief with giant headache.
The following items are taken from Oak Park Police Department daily summary reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Auto Theft: A 1995 Pontiac Transport parked in the 6100 block of Roosevelt Road was stolen Aug. 23. Estimated loss was $2,000.
Criminal Damage: The rear door handle and bolt lock were broken at First United Methodist Church, 324 N. Oak Park Ave., sometime between Aug. 22 and Aug. 23. Entry to the building was not gained. Estimated damage was $250.
Theft: An unsecured bicycle was taken Aug. 23 from a north side of the house in the 300 block of South Humphrey Avenue. Estimated loss was $150.
Theft from Auto: A spare tire was removed and the tire pressure sensor was damaged of a 2007 Toyota 4Runner parked in the 1000 block of South Oak Park Avenue sometime between Aug. 13 and Aug. 20. Estimated loss and damage were $1,200.
Theft: An unlocked BMX bicycle was taken sometime between Aug. 22 and Aug. 23 from the rear stairwell of an apartment building in the 400 block of North Humphrey Avenue. Estimated loss was $250.
Criminal Damage: A sink was trashed when it was pulled from the drywall and then broken in a bathroom at Barrie Center, 1011 S. Lombard Ave. Estimated loss was $300.
Residential Burglary: A Walther .380-caliber handgun and an antique 9mm revolver were stolen Aug. 23 from a home in the 200 block of South Cuyler Avenue. Estimated loss was $1,650.
Retail Theft: Octavius Taylor, 39, of Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft Aug. 21 when he was caught with six bottles of pain reliever taken from CVS Pharmacy, 345 Madison St., police said. Police said Taylor had taken the items, fled on his bicycle and was stopped three blocks east of the store.
Burglary: A women’s bicycle was taken Aug. 22 from the open garage of a home in the 1200 block of Edmer Avenue.
Theft Arrest: Marcus A. Washington, 34, of Chicago, was charged with theft when officers found 10-gauge copper wire, valued at $976, in the trunk of a rented 2012 Chevy Cruze not leased by him, police said. Authorities said officers saw a car with Ohio plates driving east through the parking lot of Jewel-Osco, 7036 W. Roosevelt Rd., with its trunk open. The driver, later identified as Washington, was stopped in the 6400 block of Roosevelt Road and questioned. An inventory search and the wire, taken from the spool, was found in the trunk.
Theft: A men’s bicycle was taken from the rear of a home in the 1100 block of Edmer sometime between Aug. 17 and Aug. 18. Estimated loss was $370.
Residential Burglary: A laptop, video game console and games, $5 in change and a 21-speed bicycle were taken Aug. 22 from a residence in the 200 block of South Scoville Avenue. Entry was gained through an unlocked rear door. The estimated loss was $2,405.
Criminal Damage: Five laminated paper signs on fencing surrounding the construction site at Taylor Park, 400 W. Division St., were set on fire Aug. 22. Estimated loss was $100.
