Oak Park Police Blotter: Boy Punched, Bikes Taken
Handicapped placard stolen from car parked at library, candy and air freshener yield felony theft charges for Chicagoan.
The following items are taken from Oak Park Police Department daily summary reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Theft from Auto: A handicap placard was taken Oct. 24 from an unlocked 2001 Honda CRV parked in the garage at Oak Park Public Library, 834 Lake St. Estimated loss was $10.
Theft: An 18-inch copper birdbath was stolen sometime between Oct. 22 and Oct. 26 from the rear yard of a home in the 700 block of South Highland Avenue. Estimated loss was $150.
Criminal Damage: The passenger side door of a 2007 Lexus RX300 was scratched sometime between Oct. 21 and Oct. 22 while it was parked on the first floor of the Holley Court Garage. Estimated damage was $300.
Auto Theft: An unlocked 2001 Dodge Caravan parked in the 1100 block of North Taylor Avenue was stolen Oct. 26. Estimated loss was $10,000.
Theft: An iPod and cash were stolen Oct. 26 from a book bag left unattended underneath a table at Oak Park-River Forest High School, 201 N. Scoville Ave. Estimated loss was $310.
Burglary to Auto: An in-dash navigation system was stolen Oct. 26 from a 1985 Pontiac Grand Prix parked in the rear of a building in 1000 block of Ontario Street. Entry was gained by damaging the passenger side door lock. The interior also was ransacked. Estimated damage and loss were $250.
Criminal Damage: Four tires on a 1994 Jeep Cherokee parked in the 400 block of South Taylor Avenue were slashed Oct. 22. Estimated damage was $400.
Theft: A purse containing a driver’s license, debit card, cash and nail polish was stolen Oct. 27 from the front counter of The Perfect Dinner, 809 South Blvd. Estimated loss was $109.
Battery Arrest: LeShaun L. Hodges, 22, of Oak Park, was charged Oct. 27 with battery after approaching a 16-year-old boy from behind and punching him in the head, police said.
Criminal Damage Arrest: David Bryant, 28, of Oak Park, was charged Oct. 27 with criminal damage to property after kicking in the basement window of a home in the 1100 block of Lyman Avenue, police said. In stopping Bryant, who was in the vicinity of the crime, police noticed that he had muddy shoes and shards of glass in the heel of one of them, police said.
Warrant Arrest: Agnieszka Kopec, 24, of West Dundee, was arrested Oct. 24 on an active warrant out of Cook County for possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop in the 100 block of North Austin Boulevard, police said.
Residential Burglary: A television set was taken sometime between Oct. 21 and Oct. 24 from the kitchen of a home in the 600 block of North East Avenue. Estimated loss was $250.
Burglary: A GPS unit was taken sometime between Oct. 24 and Oct. 25 from a 2009 Nissan Rogue parked in the garage of a home in the 100 block of North Humphrey Avenue. Entry to the car was gained by breaking the front driver’s side window; the garage was accessed through an unlocked side service door. Estimated loss was $260.
Residential Burglary: Copper tubing, a bicycle, a suitcase and various yard tools were stolen sometime between Oct. 23 and Oct. 25 from the basement of a home in the 700 block of South Harvey Avenue. Entry was gained by pushing in a basement window and crawling through and over the security bars. Estimated loss was $690.
Burglary: A bicycle was stolen sometime between Oct. 24 and Oct. 25 from the garage of a home in the 700 block of South Taylor Avenue. Entry was gained by prying off the lock of the side service. A garage door opener was also stolen from an unlocked 2008 Honda CR-V parked inside. Estimated loss was $330.
Retail Theft: Stacey Jackson, 43, of Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft Oct. 25 after she was positively identified by employees at Walgreen's, 6412 W. Roosevelt Rd. as the woman who walked out of the store without paying for air freshener and candy, all valued at $34.
Burglary: A 27-inch bicycle was stolen Oct. 25 from the garage of a home in the 1000 block of Forest Avenue. Entry was gained by opening an unlocked side service door. Estimated loss was $600.
