Pot, Cocaine and Magic Mushrooms Seized in Bust in Berwyn
Arrest of Christopher Greer also turns up a drug, believed to be LSD, and cash.
A 27-year-old Berwyn man was charged with two counts of intent to deliver drugs. A total of 16 grams of marijuana, one gram of cocaine and 23 grams of psychedelic mushrooms were seized during a Jan. 4 raid on a Berwyn apartment by Forest Park police.
Christopher L. Greer also stands accused of possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana as part of a continuing narcotics investigation, police said.
According to police, officers went to Greer's apartment in the 1800 block of South Kenilworth Avenue and detained him and several others as they conducted a search of the apartment.
Greer initially told police he had nothing illegal in his apartment, but after an officer spotted a jar of cannabis on the floor next to his bed, he told officers that marijuna was in there.
The K-9 officer Diesel searched the apartment and the dog became alerted to a small dresser inside the bedroom.
Evidence seized included:
- On the floor, a clear glass jar containing a green leaf-like substance; a dagger knife; metal grinder with cannabis residue inside; a silver metal BB gun and a cell phone.
- On a small dresser, a tin box containing numerous marijuana roaches; a straw with residue of a white powdery substance; three glass pipes with cannabis residue; various papers; brass knuckles; $174 from inside a pair of jeans, and a tin with suspected cannabis seeds.
- On a night stand, a glass jar with suspect cannabis residue; two clear plastic bags with cannabis residue inside; two multicolored glass bongs with cannabis residue inside; a meal grinder with suspected cannabis residue; a multicolored glass pipe and $100 inside his wallet.
- From a tall dresser, a clear knotted plastic bag containing a white powder substance inside a small jewerly box on top of the dresser; a clear plastic bag containing suspected LSD in the top drawer; a clear plastic bag containing five smaller clear plastic bags containing psychedelic mushrooms; two digital scales with suspect cannabis resident from the top drawer and a metal grinder.
Greer told police he had been selling marijuana for some time and only sold to people to make some extra cash. He added that he sold marijuana so that he could get his for free, because he smoked every day, authorities said.
Approximately $274 was recovered at the scene, police said. The suspected LSD was sent off to the state crime lab for verification, police said.
Greer also was charged with resisting or obstructing an officer after he refused to get out of bed when officers entered the apartment, and with battery when he kicked away an officer's hand while a policeman was trying to get him out of bed, police said.
