River Forest Police Blotter: Groceries, Purse Stolen During Smash-and-Grab

The following information was supplied by the River Forest Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

 

Traffic Arrest: Dashaun Guthrie, 24, of Chicago, was charged with driving on a suspended license March 19 after his car was pulled over in the area of Washington Boulevard and Keystone Avenue for running a stop sign, police said. He also was charged with disobeying a stop sign, improper lane usage, expired registration and operating an uninsured vehicle.

Warrant Arrest: John J. Mullens III, 32, of Melrose Park, was arrested March 19 on an outstanding warrant out of DuPage County for contempt of court, police said. Police picked him up initially for panhandling in the roadway on eastbound North Avenue and Harlem.

Traffic Arrest: Asha N. Nichols, 24, of Chicago, was charged with driving on a suspended license March 20 after she pulled over for speeding in the 1400 block of Thatcher Avenue, police said. She also was charged with speeding and operating an uninsured vehicle.

DUI Arrest: Julie A. Nolan, 49, of Elmwood Park, was charged with drunken driving on March 20 after she was apprehended for rear-ending another vehicle in the 7900 block of Division Street, police said. She also was charged with failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Traffic Arrest: Elias Torres, 31, of Chicago, was charged with driving without a license March 21 after he was pulled over in the 7700 block of North Avenue for failing to signal while changing lanes, police said. He also was charged with improper lane usage and operating an uninsured vehicle.

Petit Larceny: James C. Tillman, 25, of Chicago, was charged with petit larceny, under a village ordinance, on March 21 for taking two 6-foot pieces of metal pipe from the River Forest Park District storage facility at 7810 Lake St., police said.

Criminal Damage: The passenger side door of a Chevy Cavalier was kicked and damaged March 21 after a traffic dispute between two drivers in the area of North and Lathrop avenues. Damage estimate is unknown.

Traffic Arrest: Pamela Green, 49, of Chicago, was charged with driving on a suspended license March 22 after she pulled over in the 7400 block of Chicago Avenue for having suspended plates, police said. She also was charged with driving on suspended plates and driving without insurance.

Theft: A spare tire was stolen March 22 from a 2007 Ford Explorer parked in the 7300 block of Garden Court. The estimated loss was $750.

Theft: A spare tire was stolen March 22 from a 2006 Lexus GX470 parked in the 400 block of Clinton Avenue. Estimated loss was $750.

Aggravated Robbery: An iPhone was stolen March 22 when a man threatened to shoot the victim if he did not hand the phone to him. The victim told police he was walking from the CTA Green Line stop at Harlem Avenue and was being followed by the suspect. He said he did not see a weapon but told police that the gun was implied. The suspect was last seen running east on Superior Street into Oak Park. Estimated loss was $300.

DUI Arrest: Adabel Velazquez, 30, of Chicago, was charged with drunken driving March 22 when her car was pulled over in the 7900 block of North Avenue for speeding, police said. She also was charged with driving without a license, speeding, improper lane usage and driving without insurance.

Disorderly Conduct: Jessie Jackson Jr., 39, of Oak Park, was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal trespass to land March 21 after he had been repeatedly warned not to be in River Forest Town Center, police said.

Obstructing an Officer: Aron E. Parham, 21, of Chicago, was charged with obstructing a police officer March 24 after he was uncooperative with cops who pulled him over for speeding in the 900 block of Thatcher Avenue, police said. He also was charged with speeding and driving without a license.

Theft: A bag of groceries and a purse containing cash, a cell phone, credit and miscellaneous cards were stolen March 24 from a 67-year-old Oak Park resident during a smash and-grab in the parking lot at Jewel-Osco, 7525 Lake St. The victim told police she was seated in the driver’s seat of her car she heard the passenger window of her car shatter and saw a man take the groceries and purse from the front seat. The suspect dumped the bag but kept the purse as he got into a car and drove off toward Lake.

Violation Village Ordinance: Jarrett Lamar H. Ceaser, 23, of Chicago, was charged March 24 with smoking against posted restrictions, obstructing the entrance of a business and discarding cigarette refuse on a public sidewalk against village ordinance, police said.
