Battery Arrest: Joseph D. Barney, 39, of Chicago, was charged with misdemeanor battery May 9, after he fondled the thigh of a passenger on a westbound Metra train, police said. The victim told police she got on the westbound train in downtown Chicago and that the offender sat next to her in the sparsely-occupied railroad car. The offender held a newspaper in such a way that it repeatedly brushed against the victim’s thigh, but as the train approached the River Forest station he abruptly fondled her left inner-thigh with his open hand before getting up and exiting the train at the River Forest platform. The victim immediately reported the incident to a conductor who flagged down a second conductor, and the conductors then detained the man until police arrived, police said.
