The space at 1038 Lake Street has been vacant for about two years. What would you like to see there?

Update: We've heard from realtor Tammy Spilis with Network Commerical Real Estate. She says: "We do actually have a lease on that space, as well the adjacent unit, it’s all from the same user. It’s a large user obviously."

Until a deal is done, she said, "We’re not at liberty to divulge any information whatsoever."

Original Story: This stretch of downtown Oak Park has seen a lot of activity lately.

Recent arrivals include Delia's Kitchen, the Lake Street Kitchen + Bar, Potbelly, Crumbs Bake Shop and Cheryl's Cookies. Pretty soon, Falafill will open its doors at 1053 Lake St., right across the street from Jerusalem Cafe (but that's a story for another time).

Yet since Mancini's Pizza and Pasta Cafe picked up its dough and moved about a half-block west to 1111 Lake St. in in January 2010, this building has been empty. Likewise for the adjacent storefront, which looks like it once house sales office for The Regency.

It's a lot of space to fill. We'd like to know what you want to see there.

About this column: Occasionally, we'll post a photo of a vacant local building and ask your thoughts about what should take its place. Related Topics: 1038 Lake Street, Lake Street, and Visions for Vacancies

What happened to that brew pub we were supposed to get?

That'd be cool...

Just please, no more bakeries!! I'm all "cupcaked" out. :-)
