Authorities say missing 17-year-old girl found dead in Lake Street building.

Update, 4:10 p.m. A Wisconsin newspaper, The Sheboygan Press, has identified the girl as Kimberly Ciotola, "a senior at Sheboygan North High School."

Orginal story: A 17-year-old girl reported missing from her home in Sheboygan, Wisc. died Tuesday in Oak Park, the victim of a possible heroin overdose, said.

Oak Park Investigations Cmdr. LaDon Reynolds said police are piecing together a timeline of what happened from the time the teen was picked up at a downtown bus station to when she was found unresponsive and unconscious in a third-floor hallway of an apartment building at 855 W. Lake St.

So far, authorities know the teen took a bus from Wisconsin and arrived in Chicago at 8:30 p.m. Monday, when she was picked up by a 22-year-old male who police said she'd met online. The pair took public transportation to the vacant Oak Park apartment, where police said the man had lived until Oct. 1.

The man's "whereabouts and activities are of interest to us,” Reynolds said.

An account in Wednesday Journal reports that prior to arriving in Chicago, the girl "had been traveling alone by bus for three weeks, visiting New York and several other places before she returned home to Sheboygan."

At 5:17 a.m. Tuesday, the 22-year-old man called police. Officers found the teen in the hallway and an  ambulance took her to , 520 S. Maple Ave., where she was pronounced dead at 5:40 a.m.

Police said there was no sign of trauma to her body.

Reynolds said a parent reported the girl missing around 7 p.m. Monday when she did not come home from school. He did not know which school she attended, what grade she was in or when she left Sheboygan.

“We are following up on any leads. Right now this is a death investigation until we can conclusively determine what led up to her death,” he said.
