Anyone else have the job searching blues? I fired my last employer about a year and a half ago and have been on the hunt since. t first I was ecstatic — look at all the possibilities! But as time went on, I noticed something. People weren't responding to my well crafted letters and resumes.
I made new resumes, had them critiqued, wrote tailored cover letters that were clever and thorough. Still, not many responses. When I did get interviews, I was congratulated for being one of the few that made it to this step in the process. I haven't gotten job yet, though.
I remain optimistic. I know that with my experience and education someone will see that I am a fit. But there are low points, I admit. Today I was to have a phone interview at 11:00 am. The phone never rang. At 11:07, I get an email.
I regret to inform you we have filled out position for 9th Grade English.
Your candidacy was high on our list and you were a top contender. However, in the end, we decided to go in a different direction with the position.
Thank you for your interest in supporting our students.
Best of luck in your endeavors to change the lives of youth.
I will get back on the laptop tomorrow and continue the search. But today, I am taking a break.

I was in the exact same boat as you! It searched for a year. Finally, I decided to reassess and ended up switching careers. I think a day off is a good idea. Otherwise, you'll burn yourself out before you even get a job!
