Slated for Tuesday, August 7th, show times are 12 PM and 7 PM. Movie admission is $6 for matinee shows/seniors and $8.50 for the evening shows. Having “great heart,” says Roger Ebert, “We Have a Pope” tells the story of Melville (played by the French actor Michael Piccoli), a cardinal who suddenly finds himself elected as the next Pope. Never the front runner and completely caught off guard, he panics as he's presented to the faithful in St. Peter's Square. To prevent a worldwide crisis, the Vatican's spokesman calls in an unlikely psychiatrist who is neither religious nor all that committed, played by Director Nanni Moretti, to find out what is wrong with the new Pope. As the world nervously waits outside, inside the therapist tries to find a solution. But Cardinal Melville is adamant: he does not want the job, or at least needs time to think it over. What follows is a marvelous insight into the concept of a human being existing behind the title of God's representative on Earth. The film’s original title is “Habemus Papam,” the Latin phrase used upon the announcement of a new pope.
The art films for this new First Tuesday Film Club have been selected with the assistance of local residents Susie Helfrich, Mary Kay O’Grady, and Bobbie Raymond along with Shirley Johnson of Classic Cinemas. A discussion will follow both screenings of the current feature.

This interesting film (We Have a Pope) is interesting, and Melville is a good name for the man who becomes Pope. This film reminds me of the story of Jonah and the Whale, and it relates to Moby Dick by another Melville. I suggest a another movie to be called We Have a Pope II, which begins after a few minutes after the former movie, and Melville returns and says:
"God does not make mistakes! I was duly chosen as Pope, and I wanted to play the role of Mr. Nice Pope my whole life, but these times are tough. I am fleeing my duty like Jonah, because I cannot accept the role of Pope - because it feels like being Judas Iscariot for Jesus. My ultimate duty will be to condemn my fellow cardinals and the politicians of the world, and I have no stomach for it. But the truth is that I was chosen, anointed by God for a duty which does not fit Pope Mr. Nice Guy. So, I must flee now and be swallowed by some sort of whale, before I am thrown up to do God's will and then introduce our true leader, Jesus Christ.
