More About Elizabeth Cheney Mansion
This beautiful building in Oak Park's Historic District was designed by Charles E. White Jr., a student of Frank Lloyd Wright.
After it was completed in the early 1900s, the 12,000 square-foot home changed hands between prominent local families and was eventually inherited by Elizabeth Cheney, the niece of Mary Hooker Dole.
Cheney deeded the building and surrounding grounds to the Park District of Oak Park in 1975 — and lived there until her death in 1985.
Today, the mansion hosts programs like cooking classes for kids and adults. It's also available to rent for weddings and other private soirees.
