How to Get Free Ice Cream in Oak Park

You do have to do something to get it, of course. Also good to know today: The River Forest Park District is celebrating its 100th birthday and its the last day to buy tickets for the Microbrew Review.

Give blood, get free ice cream: The Oak Park Public Library is holding a blood drive from noon until 4 p.m. today. Donors receive a certificate for free Oberweis ice cream.

Microbrew Review ticket sales end today: 
The annual Microbrew Review is back in Oak Park this weekend. Organized by the Oak Park-based non-profit Seven Generations Ahead, which supports sustainable community development, as well as the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild, the event runs from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 17, but there are longer sessions available.

For tickets and more information, go here. Ticket sales end at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15. All of the action is on Marion Street between Pleasant and Lake streets. There will also be food vendors and live entertainment.

Happy birthday to the River Forest Park District! The park district will celebrate its 100-year anniversary from 5-8 p.m. today at Keystone Park East and West. The district will have free food, cake cutting, entertainment and giveaways. The Clear Sky festival for kids in grades 4-8 will run from 5-9 p.m. with laser tag, a climbing wall, a band, dodgeball and a DJ. More info here.

Wright Ride: The Oak Park Cycle Club, Visit Oak Park, and  the Oak Park Regional Housing  Center are hosting the eighth annual Wright Ride Sunday, Aug. 18. More info here.

Back to school lunch deal: Starship Restaurant & Catering, 7618 Madison St. in Forest Park, is giving students 20 percent off lunch when they show their new school ID this week.
