A Revel to Remember - Pleasant Home Foundation June Revel Gala

Thanks to artsandcraftscollector.com for posting this fantastic article about our 1st annual June Revel Gala!

A Revel to Remember

We hope you can join our friends at Pleasant Home in Oak Park, Illinois for their June Revel gala coming up on Saturday June 21st.

The original owner of Pleasant Home, John Farson (pictured below), was known for entertaining. In June of 1907, Mr. Farson hosted a lavish outdoor affair that was the talk of the town for weeks after the event. The grounds of Pleasant Home were transformed into a magical garden, filled with peonies, paper lanterns, electric lights and perfume-filled fountains. This was a summer fete that would not be forgotten...

The Pleasant Home Foundation wishes to continue the Farson Family's tradition with a June Revel of our own - a gala event with a nostalgic theme reminiscent of another era. "The event will include theatrical entertainment, strolling musicians, delicious food, and a silent auction titled "Great Estates" featuring unique experiences in notable private homes" shared Pleasant Home Executive Director Heidi Ruehle-May. Think Jay Gatsby meets Midsummer Night's Dream meets Pleasant Home.

The "Great Estates" auction sounds like reason enough to for us to come. Heidi continued, "It's a small auction, only five items, all notable homes in the area that are graciously opening their doors for the lucky winning bidder to host an event." A couple of the houses featured are Ernest Hemingway's childhood home and one of the many Frank Lloyd Wright residences in the area, the Adam House. What a dream to host your own private party in such a notable home. Get your bidding paddles ready!

Income generated from the 2014 June Revel will help fund museum projects such as restoring the historic roof, rebuilding the second floor piazza, and installing climate control in the public areas of the home, always with the goal in mind of restoring, maintaining and operating the home.
