Community Bank Awards Champion Grant to Kingdom Community, Inc.

Community Bank of Oak Park River Forest is pleased to announce that Kingdom Community, Inc. is the recipient of Community Bank’s Champion Grant. The purpose of the Champion Grant is to assist organizations in providing community outreach programs for low or moderate income individuals.

The mission of Kingdom Community, Inc. is to meet the needs of those that are considered disadvantaged, distressed, and disconnected from opportunities and resources.  Kingdom Community serves the homeless, ex-offenders, single parents, low-income residents and at-risk teens in the Austin, North Lawndale and Garfield Park communities on the Westside of Chicago.  They have served these communities for over seven years by providing advocacy, intervention, counseling services, self-development and empowerment opportunities for low-income and disadvantaged individuals and families.

A grant in the amount of $2,000 was presented to John Abercrombie, Vanessa Taliferro and Kendall Reid on Thursday, August 15.  Bernard D. Headley II, Community Lending Specialist for Community Bank, presented the grant.  Kingdom Community will use the grant to support their foreclosure prevention education awareness program.  The Austin community ranks as one of the highest foreclosure areas in the nation with double digit foreclosure rates.  The goal of Kingdom Community is to increase outreach to homeowners who face foreclosure by providing them with counseling, education and resources.  More information about Kingdom Community is available on their website at www.kingdomcommunityinc.org
