Community Bank Presents A Christmas Carol

Community Bank of Oak Park River Forest will present A Christmas Carol at the Lake Theatre on Saturday, December 7 at 10 a.m.  Free tickets for the original 1951 classic starring Alastair Sim can be picked up at either Community Bank location: 1001 Lake Street, Oak Park, IL or 7777 Lake Street, River Forest, IL.  There is a limit of six tickets per person.  The Lake Theatre is located at 1022 Lake Street, Oak Park, IL.

Prior to the presentation of A Christmas Carol, Community Bank will be accepting donated gifts on behalf of Bethel New Life, and attendees are encouraged to bring a gift.  Bethel New Life is a nonprofit organization located at 4950 W. Thomas, Chicago.  All donated gifts must be new and should not be wrapped.  The most popular donations last year were electronic and educational games for toddlers, toys, African American Barbie dolls, board games, winter gear for all ages and genders, bed sheets, bath and body products, house wares, Walmart gift cards and books.  Collected gifts will be donated to Bethel’s annual Christmas Store, which is designed to give families a way to purchase Christmas gifts with dignity.  Donated gifts are sold at the Christmas Store to families for an affordable price: $1, $5, or $10.  The proceeds enable Bethel to support their childhood education program for families in need on the Westside of Chicago.

This is the fifth consecutive year Community Bank is presenting a holiday film classic at the Lake Theatre.  Last year over 500 guests attended the event, which is quickly becoming a community favorite.  “Lots of families like to attend, and it’s great to see children with their parents and grandparents all celebrating the holiday season.  By presenting A Christmas Carol, Community Bank is able to give something back during the holidays as a special thank you to the community,” said Walter Healy, President of Community Bank.

In this classic Charles Dickens adaptation, Ebenezer Scrooge (Alastair Sim) is visited by the ghost of his former partner, Jacob Marley, and three spirits who show him his past, present, and future in order to convince him of his wrongdoing.  Scrooge awakens on Christmas morning a changed man, and makes good on his promise to carry the spirit of Christmas in his heart all year round.
