Established by the American Bankers Association Education Foundation in 1997, Teach Children to Save Day is a nationwide effort that has helped more than 5 million young people learn about the importance of savings.  Participating in Teach Children to Save Day gives Community Bank the opportunity to assist area youth in developing healthy financial habits that will benefit them throughout their lives and help them reach their goals.

Community Bank’s Teach Children to Save workshop will focus on the basic principles of savings.  Workshop topics include:

  • Introduction to the concept of financial management such as paying bills on time, being a conscientious spender and an active saver
  • How to save by budgeting and planning for the future
  • The difference between needs and wants, the value of savings and budgeting and the consequences of not doing so
  • The benefits of having a savings account and how to manage a savings account

The workshop will be run by financial experts from Community Bank.  Hands-on activities will be used to demonstrate financial concepts, and real-world examples will help children grasp the importance of savings.  Children will be treated to a special tour of Community Bank, and at the conclusion of the workshop they will receive a certificate showing they participated in Teach Children to Save Day.
