Dominican ranked #13 by US News & World Report

Dominican University enhanced its standing in the U.S. News & World Report rankings this year to No. 13 of 108 Midwest universities. The influential annual “America’s Best Colleges” has ranked Dominican in the top tier of master’s level Midwest universities for the past 16 years.

In addition, Dominican was named one of the publication’s top 5 “Great Schools at a Great Price” among Midwest regional universities, alongside Creighton University, Valparaiso University and University of Evansville. This recognition is especially important at a time when the cost of higher education and student indebtedness continue to be hot topics in the media.

“Dominican is committed to students’ success and persistence. I am delighted to see this year’s rankings highlight that strength,” said Donna M. Carroll, president of Dominican University. 

Dominican tied for 13th place with North Central College, University of Northern Iowa and St. Catherine University (MN).

The annual examination of nearly 1,800 accredited American colleges and universities, based on categories created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, has become one of the most comprehensive tools for students and families considering higher education opportunities across the country.

The report measures several factors to determine an institution’s rank, including peer assessment, SAT/ACT scores, student retention, student/faculty ratio, student selectivity, and alumni giving rate. Dominican increased its overall score by three points from last year.

In addition to the US News & World Report, Dominican was ranked by The Washington Monthly as one of the top 10 Catholic colleges in the country offering the “Best Bang for the Buck.” The magazine measures the number of students receiving Pell grants, graduation rates, loan default rates and net tuition.
