River Forest Reads Kicks off on Monday, Jan. 20th with Clarence Goodman

The River Forest Library will kick off their first community reading program, River Forest Reads, on Monday , January 20th at 2 PM with “Chicago, Emancipation to Inauguration”, presented by Clarence Goodman.  A veteran of the stage, studio, and road, and the proprietor of C Chicago Tours, Goodman has been called the best tour guide in Chicago.  During his presentation, he will take us on a tour of Chicago and discuss the city’s pivotal role in black history. This program is free.

River Forest Reads aims to bring the community together as they discover The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson.  “In this epic, beautifully written masterwork, Pulitzer Prize–winning author Isabel Wilkerson chronicles one of the great untold stories of American history: the decades-long migration of black citizens who fled the South for northern and western cities, in search of a better life” (Random House Books).

Other special programs will be held in February and March.  River Forest Reads will conclude with a community book discussion on March 26th at 7 PM.
