River Forest Township Assessor Hosts Outreach on March 10th

The River Forest Township Assessor is hosting a community outreach on Monday, March 10th, at 7 p.m. to offer help to residents with questions about the reassessment process, including how they may appeal their own assessment.

The event will be at the River Forest Community Center, 8020 Madison St. The appeal deadline for River Forest residents is Thursday, March 13th. They can also file online at www.cookcountyassessor.com.

“Every year, one-third of Cook County is reassessed and this is our year,” said River Forest Township Assessor Pamela Kende. “We encourage anyone who has any questions at all to come and bring a copy of their tax bill or reassessment notice to our outreach.”

Township Deputy Assessor Debbie DeChinistso will be on hand, as will staff from the Cook County Assessor’s Office to provide an overview of the triennial reassessment process.

Over the past four years, Kende and her deputy have assisted with more than 1,000 appeals. They have also helped residents who have made inquiries about their property tax bills, exemptions and questions related to assessments.

The community outreach session is designed to help as many people as possible understand the triennial reassessment process.

“This office exists to serve residents, 12 months out of the year, and it is especially busy this time of year,” Kende noted. “Whether someone comes to get a specific question answered or get an in-depth explanation of the reassessment process, this outreach event will be a very good investment of everyone’s time.”

A document containing Frequently Asked Questions about property taxes is on the Assessor’s page, which is part of the River Forest Township website. You can see the document here:
