Summer of Fun at the River Forest Library

Summer is finally here and the River Forest Library has a packed schedule of programs that will keep boredom at bay. In addition to the summer reading program (sign up is still open), adults, teens and children have a wide range of programs to choose from that are fun, entertaining and will keep those minds active.

Adults

For adults, there will be a Coffee Monday on July 7th and Computer Learning Labs on Wednesdays at 10 AM (7/2, 7/9 & 7/16).  The Foreign Film Forum on Saturday, July 12th at 2 PM will feature The Garden of the Finzi-Continis in Italian with English subtitles and on Saturday, August 8, Beaufort in Hebrew with English subtitles.

Not to be missed, the annual Dooley Brothers concert will be on Friday, July 18 at 7:30 PM. These River Forest natives perform a blend of Folk, Jazz, Irish, Swing, Calypso and good old Rock & Roll.

As part of Celebrating Seniors All Year Long and in partnership with the River Forest Township, the Library will be offering a special program on Thursday, 7/24 at 7 PM titled Chicago’s Movers and Shakers. Hy Speck, teacher, docent, tour guide and historian, will give a presentation about the larger than life “Movers and Shakers” that made Chicago, Chicago.

Additional programs include The Gift of Story (7/29, 7PM) and Healthy Aging and Brain Fitness (8/5, 10:30 AM).

Teens

Throughout the summer, teens can enjoy Minecraft Club (on Thursdays from 4-5:30 PM), and several fun craft days, including making a summer memory jar on 8/20.

Special programs for teens include Teen Book Tasting (7/1, 7 PM), Teen Trivia Night (7/8, 7 PM), Manga Mania Night (7/16, 7 PM). For those out there who can’t wait for Halloween, Halloween in July (7/30, 8 PM) is sure to be a fun and spooky night. Teen Party Games (8/21, 7 PM) will be full of fun and laughs.

Children

There are endless activities for children at the River Forest Library all summer long, including weekly art and science activities, weekly story times, Minecraft club, and tons of special programs.

July will kick off with Steve Belliveau’s Getting Excited About Science Show (7/1, 3 PM) which will be fun as well as educational. Math lovers can stop in for Summer of Numbers (7/15, 2 PM) and dance lovers can enjoy Ballet Story Time on 7/24 at 2 PM. The summer reading program will come to a close with a musical celebration on July 31 for all ages. Jeanie B! will perform a live concert in the front garden of the Library at 6:30 PM.

If the special programs aren’t enough to keep you entertained this summer, the library’s fabulous collections are at your fingertips. Don’t forget about reading for pleasure, enjoying a good movie with your family, trying out some new summer recipes, planning a trip, or doing a DIY project. There are endless resources available at your library and they are free!
