Concert Series Starts Sunday at St. John Lutheran Church

Programs, including one featuring works performed on the R.M.S. Titanic, sponsored by church's Friends of Music.

A performance by choir of Walther Lutheran Academy, the adult choir and handbell players of St. John Lutheran Church will kick off a series of concerts Sunday, Feb. 24, at the  St. John Lutheran Church, 305 Circle Ave., Forest Park.

The program, a celebration of music that also will feature the Praise Team and St. John Choristers, youngsters in third through eighth grade who sing during worship services and at church events. 

On Sunday March 17, the Heritage Chorale under the direction of Maurice Boyer will sing mostly secular choral music during its 4 p.m. performance. The chorale features 50 singers from Oak Park and River Forest who have joined together to sing masterworks from around the globe.

And on Sunday, April 14  John W. W. Sherer, the organist and director of music for The Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago, will present a concert of works to commemorate the 101st anniversary of the sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic. Hear the music of time including works performed on board and works played in honor of those lost on the Titanic. A free will offering will be collected; a reception will follow the program.

The series is sponsored by St. John Friends of Music, a group of people interested in supporting the music ministry at St. John. Gifts to the group have helped fund maintenance of the hand bells and church's world-class pipe organ.
