Open House at Oak Park Arms

The public is invited to a fall open house from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Oak Park Arms Retirement Community, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. Apples are the theme at this fun-filled event, and the public is invited.

Attention all amateur bakers! The first annual Pie-Baking Contest will take place at the open house. Homemade non-refrigerated pies will be on display, and judging, based on taste and presentation, will begin a...t 12:15 p.m. Celebrity Judges include: Chief of Police Rick Tanksley; Battalion Chief Wiley; Village Clerk Teresa Powell; Oak Park Arms Queen 2011 Ruth Palmer; Oak Park Arms King 2008 John Heflin. First prize is $100, second prize is $50, and third prize is $25. For an entry form and a complete list of rules, go to: http://www.oakparkarms.com/.

Anyone who takes a tour of the Oak Park Arms will receive an apple pie. Tours include meeting the Chef of the Georgian Room Restaurant, meeting the on-site health care team and viewing community spaces and meeting rooms.

In addition, there will be entertainment, an 11:30 a.m. health lecture titled, “An Apple a Day,” live music by Farmers Market Musicians from 10 a.m. -12 p.m., and Ultrasound Barbershop Quartet from 12-2 p.m.

“For kids and grown-up kids, we will have pumpkin painting and station to make your own Taffy Apples,” said Jill Wagner, Marketing Director. “This open house is really an autumn extravaganza, and we hope everyone will turn out for it.”

The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay - a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
