Get Ready for Fourth of July Parade, Fireworks in Oak Park

Fourth of July weekend is nearing, so here's the information you need for a festive Fourth in Oak Park:

Parade

The 10th annual July 4th parade begins at 10 a.m. Friday at  Longfellow Park. It will march north on Ridgeland to Augusta, turning east to disperse near  Whittier Elementary School at Harvey Avenue.

It will feature numerous community groups, teams, politicians, businesses and more, including the award-winning Freedom Marching Band

Fireworks

The 15th annual GALA July 4th Fireworks Show, presented by the Community Bank of Oak Park-River Forest, begins at dusk Friday at the Oak Park-River Forest High School football stadium.

It is open to the public and there is no cost to attend. Limited street parking will be available, and there are two village parking garages nearby at Lake and Forest and also at North and Oak Park. If the show is postponed due to weather, the fireworks show will be held July 5.

Traffic and Parking

Oak Park police are stepping up enforcement through July 6 to look for impaired and unbuckled drivers as part of the statewide  Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns.

Meanwhile, the overnight on-street parking ban will not be enforced on most Oak Park residential streets over the July 4 holiday weekend. Overnight restrictions will be lifted at 2:30 a.m., Thursday and resume at 2:30 a.m. Monday, July 7.

However, restrictions will remain in effect in overnight permit areas, such as Village-owned lots, on-street enclaves and on-street overnight parking zones. All other parking regulations also remain in effect, including all daytime posted restrictions and regulations related to traffic and public safety.
