Group Collects Books in Memory of Anne Smedinghoff

A group of people from the area are hoping to collect 10,000 books to donate to children, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Susan Lucci of River Forest and a group of local seventh-grade girls, including her daughter, have spearheaded an effort to collect and donate 10,000 books to children as a way of honoring Anne Smedinghoff, 25, of River Forest, according to the Chicago Tribune. 

Smedinghoff, a U.S. diplomat, died during a car-bombing in Afghanistan on Saturday, April 6 while she was on her way to deliver books to a school. 

The effort to collect books will continue through Friday, May 3. Drop-off locations include Willard School, Lincoln School, Roosevelt Middle School, River Forest Public Library, Village Hall, Grace Lutheran School and Keystone Montessori in River Forest.
