'Moving Wall' to Honor Local Fallen Soldiers

Local Berwyn Community Agencies and Area Veterans have joined to bring "The Moving Wall" to Berwyn in August, according to a news release from the Berwyn Park District. 

The district is seeking family members and friends of the 60 Berwyn Surrounding Area soldiers whose names are displayed on the memorial, which will recognize fallen soldiers from Berwyn, Cicero, Brookfield, Forest Park, La Grange, La Grange Park, Lyons, Oak Park, Riverside, Stickney and Western Springs, according to the release. 

Built by Vietnam veterans John Devitt, Gerry Haver and Norris Shears, the Moving Wall is the half-size replica of the Washington, D.C. Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The three veterans built the wall as a remembrance and healing tool for all those people who may never have a chance to visit the Memorial in Washington, D.C., according to the release.

The Moving Wall will be displayed inside Proksa Park in Berwyn from August 7 through August 11. The names of each of the 60 soldiers will be read aloud during the ceremony and their families and friends will be acknowledged.

The Moving Wall has been touring the country since 1984, according to the release. 

Access to The Moving Wall during its visit to Berwyn will be available on a 24-hour basis. Access is free and open to all who wish to visit.
