Open House Planned for Ernest Hemingway Birthday Celebration

The Ernest Hemingway Foundation will host a weekend open house with refreshments, music, stories and special programs to celebrate Hemingway's birthday.

The Ernest Hemingway Foundation next weekend will celebrate Hemingway's birthday with an open house at the Hemingway Birthplace and Museum on Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21. 

The foundation will cap off the weekend with a Sunday celebration, featuring guest speaker Liesl Olson, exploring "Hemingway and Chicago," and the announcement of the foundation's first Writer in Residence. 

Olson is the director of the School Center for American History and Culture at the Newberry Library in Chicago. She held a national endowment for the humanities fellowship in 2011-12 and an NEH/Mellon Foundation fellowship at the Newberry Library in 2010-11, according to her website.

In 2013, Olson will direct a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute, focused on Chicago, "as the center of a new modernist geography.
