Overnight Rain Knocks Out Power, Closes Maze Branch

Heavy rains cause headaches.

An overnight deluge, the "wettest calendar day in Chicago history" according to the Chicago Tribune's Chicago Weather Center, has knocked out power and caused flooding across the Oak Park area.

issued an alert around 1:30 p.m. saying the pool at , 415 W. Lake st., is closed indefinitely because of a power outage. District officials are encouraging residents to call the pool hotline at (708) 725-2722 for updates.

At the Oak Park Public Library's , 845 S. Gunderson Ave., patrons were greeted with a sign on the facility's doors explaining the building had flooded and would be closed Saturday.

Across the Chicagoland area, upward of 7 inches of rain poured on the area in the overnight hours. A flood warning issued by the National Weather Service in Chicago remains in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday.
