Park District to Close 49 Lake Teen Center Due to Lack of Interest

Membership price, hours of operation down for remainder of 2013 at 49 Lake Teen Center in Oak Park.

The Park District of Oak Park will close the 49 Lake Teen Center at the end of the year because of a lack of interest, Oak Leaves reports.

During the 2012-13 membership cycle, the teen center that gave teens a place to watch TV, play games and hang out dropped to 32 from 45 in 2011-12, up only slightly from 27 in 2010-11.

Park district officials discussed the drop in membership and attendance at its Aug. 15 meeting. According to an Aug. 20 Chicago Tribune story, the membership price has dropped to $15 and the teen center has cut its hours for the remainder of 2013.
