Parking Restrictions Lifted in Oak Park and River Forest for Thanksgiving Weekend

It's easy to run out of room when family comes to town for the holidays—especially in the driveway.

Have no fear if you're running low on overnight parking passes, both Oak Park and River Forest are easing their parking restrictions for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Oak Park

The on-street, overnight parking ban will be lifted in Oak Park beginning at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22 and will resume at 2:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 26.

However, there are some catches: restrictions will remain in place for overnight permit areas like village-owned lots, on-street enclaves (the slanted parking spots near the train tracks, for example) and overnight parking zones, according to the village website.

Confused by that last little bit? It basically means that if a sign is posted that restricts parking on that block (or to one side of the street) to permit-only parking, you still can't park there. Tell family to keep an eye out for those signs.

All other parking restrictions, such as daytime parking and the village's regular restrictions related to traffic and public safety, are also still in effect.

River Forest

In River Forest, the overnight parking ban will not be enforced starting at 12 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21 and going back into effect at 12 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26.

Overnight parking waivers will not be required during that period, just find a spot and leave it.

However, if your guests will be staying through Sunday night into Monday, you'll need to get a waiver for that night.
