Police: Chicago Gang Members Were River Forest Car Burglars

Authorities charge two men in connection with Central Avenue break-ins.

A pair of Chicago street gang members have been charged in connection with recent car burglaries in River Forest, police said. 

Ricardo Torres, 21, and Alejandro Godinez, 24, were each charged with two counts of felony burglary after police said the pair had broken into two cars parked in the 7200 block of Central Avenue on Feb. 20. One of the attempts was successful, authorities said. The second attempt wasn't. 

Toress was caught after he apparently tried to break into another car in the same location on Feb. 27, but was found hiding in the front seat of the vehicle after a witness to the break-in called 911, police said.

Godinez was arrested in Chicago during a March 3 investigation by West Suburban Enhanced Directed Gang Enforcement (WEDGE), police said. 

The pair are also wanted in connection with two commercial burglaries in the northwest suburbs, authorities said.

In addition to the felony burglary charges, Torres, of the 4800 block of West Armitage Avenue in Chicago, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said he's a "self-admitted" member of the Spanish Cobra street gang. 

Godinez, of the 2300 block of North Lorel Avenue in Chicago, is a documented member of the Sur 13 street gang, police said.
