Recycle Those Holiday Trees and Lights

River Forest sets schedule to take away all that holiday stuff.

Christmas has come and gone but the ornaments and greenery remain.

What do you do with them? River Forest has a solution for you - recycle them.

Residents can recycle their holiday lights from now through Monday, Jan. 7 at a collection site set for Central Avenue between Park and Franklin. The site will be open 24 hours a day.

Roy Strom, the village's contractor for waste hauling, will collect trees, wreaths and other holiday greenery on the following days in January:

  • Wednesday, Jan. 2;
  • Tuesday, Jan. 8;
  • Tuesday, Jan. 15;
  • Tuesday, Jan. 22;
  • Tuesday, Jan. 29.

Simply put your holiday greens at the curb on these days and Strom will collect them. Only natural items will be collected (sorry folks, faux trees not accepted) and items must not have any lighting or ornaments attached.
