String of Car Break-Ins Reported in Oak Park

At least seven vehicles damaged in mid-week thefts.

Several Oak Park residents had a rude awakening after a cluster of burglaries to vehicles left their car windows in shambles. 

According to police reports, vandals took to the 1000 block of Marion Street, Erie Street and Chicago Avenues late Wednesday, smashing car windows and ransacking the interiors for electronics. All of the incidents took place between 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and 9:20 a.m. Thursday, police said.

1000 block of Marion Street: Front passenger window of a silver 2008 Honda broken, vehcile ransacked but nothing reported stolen. Estimated damage: $125. 

1000 block of Marion Street: Front passenger window of a silver 2008 Honda broken, GPS navigation unit stolen. Estimated damage and loss: $300.

1000 block of Erie Street: The front passenger windows of four vehicles belonging to nearby apartment dwellers were smashed out and ransacked. Only loose change was reported stolen form the cars. Estimated total damages and loss: $314. 

1000 block of Chicago Avenue: The front passenger window of a 2008 Honda Civic was broken and the center console and glove box ransacked. Estimated loss: $300.
