UPS Grant Fuels Food Pantry Nutrition Programs
The $10,000 will help clients learn about making good nutrition choices with pantry food.
United Parcel Service has delivered for the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry, giving the agency a $10,000 grant to fund its food nutrition programs.
The grant, which was announced in mid-October, came in conjunction with the company's drivers volunteering for the agency, director Michele Zurakowski said.
Drivers over an unspecified amount of volunteer hours worked produce rescue, picking up and sorting items from local groceries, Zurakowski said.

During this past year the agency applied, and the company provided, the grant.
The money will be aimed at building the curriculum around teaching clients how to make good nutrition choices with pantry food, Zurakowski said.

The program provides nutrition information ranging from making dietary choices for diabetics to using whole grains, she said. The information, recipes and food samples are provided while clients are waiting to pick up their allotments, she added.
This effort has been in operation for three years, and it has always been totally funded by grants. But it could not be fully funded without this money, Zurakowski said.
Efforts to reach a branch manager at UPS were unsuccessful.
