Viewfinder: Spirits in the Night Ghost Tour

Spooky fun and a history lesson post Halloween.

Who says you need to take a ghost tour before Halloween?

If you attended the Spirits in the Night Ghost Tour put on by the Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest, you got a night of not only spooky tales, but a history lesson too.

The two-hour walking tour on Thursday, Nov. 1 took attendees around Oak Park to visit the village's more "stately and historic" landmarks where some say the spirits have not moved on.

The final stop on the tour took ghost hunters and history buffs to Cheney Mansion, a 1913 Tudor-style landmark in Oak Park, to attend an Edwardian wake. Costume interpreters staged the wake of Adeline Sharpe, the dearly departed wife of Caswell Sharpe (the home's original owner) who passed away in 1915.
