Water Main Break at Chicago & Monroe in River Forest

Update, 10:12 a.m. Water service in the 500, 600 and 700 blocks of Monroe Avenue will be shut off from about 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, village officials said. Residents with questions are encouraged to call the River Forest Public Works Department at (708) 366-8500.

Some River Forest residents may want to think about speeding up their morning routine.

A water main running below Monroe Avenue just south of Chicago Avenue has broken, prompting a possible water shut off as crews work to repair the damaged pipe.

Workers at the site of the break early Tuesday were hesitant to say when the problem area would be fixed, but said they were aiming to let nearby residents to "shower and get out of the house" by 10 a.m. before shutting off water service.
