Best Albums of 2011

Grab the headphones. It's time for some music recommendations.

Today, we're teaming up with one of our favorite music blogs to present you with the 10 best albums of 2011. We've asked Oak Park native Patrick Shanley, proprietor of They Are The Imitators, to lend us a hand in picking the year's best tunes. Above are some of the records dialed up on the iPod and spinning on his turntable this year.

What do you think of the picks? Agree? Disagree?

I think one glaring omission from the list is Father, Son and Holy Ghost, an absolute knockout by the San Francisco-based band Girls. It's filled with lush, Elvis Costello-tinged garage-pop. A masterpiece from start to finish, in my opinion.

Can't get enough tunes? Here's a look at some other Best Albums of 2011-type lists across the web, including AOL's Spinner, Pitchfork, Chicago Reader, Reckless Records, Mother Jones and Rolling Stone.
