2011 Green Fair & Eco-Film Fest

The 2011 Green Fair & Eco-Film Fest to be held in Oak Park on August 28th will serve to inform, promote, and celebrate sustainability, enhancing everyday life with ideas for eco-friendly practices.  At noon and then again at 3 pm, the Eco-Film Fest screens the documentary Deep Green by Matt Briggs.  Fueled by “the full truth of how the natural biological world balanced itself, and how the size of the human footprint was throwing it out of balance in so many places, in so many ways. And that this was all fixable,” Briggs takes us on a compelling journey to nine countries, including China, to uncover the best ideas, cutting-edge technologies and restorative solutions to address the job of fixing climate change.  Oak Park resident Gary Cuneen, founder of Seven Generations Ahead, moderates a discussion following the film.

Before each film screening, visitors to the Green Fair can learn how to make an immediate difference for themselves, their families, their communities – and the earth.  The Green Fair promotes diversity by showcasing people and organizations in Oak Park and the surrounding community who share the mission of sustainability.  In addition to informational booths, interactive childrens activities and live music, there will be tours of an established prairie garden to seek out the wild creatures and flora sustained there.  Visitors are encouraged to bring the overflowing bounty of their own garden for a harvest and seed exchange.  At 2 pm Truck Farm Chicago will make a visit, joining the "urban farm" chickens and goat.  A recyclables collection for used but good gym shoes, cell phones, rechargeable batteries, ink jet cartridges, and CFL bulbs (unbroken) will be ongoing as well as other activities.

Tickets for the film are available at www.goodshepherdlc.org. for $5 ($7.50 at the door).  For more information email OPGreenFair@gmail.com.  Visit us on Facebook for the latest updates on program information. http://www.facebook.com/pages/2011-Green-Fair-Eco-Film-Fest/117573428335906
