Dominican O'Connor Art Gallery Hosts "First Love"

Dominican University’s O’Connor Art Gallery will host First Love, an exhibit featuring the original art of five prominent art curators, from January 25 to February 25, 2012. The exhibit will open on Wednesday, January 25 with an artist panel at 3:00 p.m., followed by a reception from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The five exhibitors are: Edmund Chia, director of Peregrine Program in Chicago; Michelle Grabner, director of The Suburban in Oak Park; Diego Leclery, director of Julius Caesar in Chicago; Leeza Meksin, independent curator; and Liz Nielsen, director of Swimming Pool Project Space in Chicago.

“These artists were selected for their unique ability to both curate impressive exhibitions in various galleries and project spaces and simultaneously maintain their commitment to their own art practice,” said Angela Bryant, director of exhibitions at O’Connor.

The O’Connor Art Gallery is located on the fourth floor of Lewis Hall on Dominican’s Main Campus, 7900 Division Street, River Forest. Its mission is to present the Dominican University academic community with timely, relevant and focused contemporary art exhibitions that foster critical and thoughtful dialogue across disciplines. Exhibitions are curated with the student body in mind, as they are meant to introduce students to new and innovative artistic concepts, practices and strategies. Located just steps from many of the art department’s studios and classrooms, the gallery is particularly accessible to art students as a space for intimate engagement and reflection.

Exhibits, panels and receptions are free and open to the public. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. For more information, contact Angela Bryant at abryant@dom.edu.
