Dominican University hosts lecture with author Katherine Paterson

Award-winning children’s book author Katherine Paterson will present Dominican University’s Graduate School of Library and Information Science Spring Lecture titled “Read for Your Life” on Wednesday, April 6 at 6:00 p.m. in the Bluhm Lecture Hall of Parmer Hall, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest. A reception will follow the lecture.

Paterson is the acclaimed author of dozens of books for children and teens, including The Great Gilly Hopkins, The Master Puppeteer, Bridge to Terabithia, and Jacob Have I Loved. She is currently serving as the United States Library of Congress National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. She has received the Newbery Medal twice, the National Book Award and the Scott O’Dell Prize for Historical Fiction. In 1998, she was chosen by the International Board of Books for Young People for the Hans Christian Anderson Award, recognizing her lasting contribution to literature for children. She is one of only six American authors and illustrators to be so honored.

Accredited by the American Library Association, Dominican University’s GSLIS has been educating future library leaders and information professionals since the 1930s. The school offers master’s degrees in library and information science and in knowledge management, and a doctoral degree in library and information science.

Established in 2009, the Butler Children’s Literature Center at Dominican University is one of the nation’s premier centers for the study of children’s and young adult literature. The center is a partnership of the Graduate School of Library and Information Sciences, the School of Education, the Rebecca Crown Library, and the Butler Family Foundation.
