Dominican University presents forum on body image in the world of fashion

Dominican University will present a forum on “Perfection: Media and Body Image in the World of Fashion” on Tuesday, April 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Martin Recital Hall, 7900 West Division Street, River Forest.

The forum will begin with the screening of the short documentary, America the Beautiful. Then the panelists will explore media images of beauty and discuss how the fashion industry’s visual presentations of body images have distorted the self-image of girls and women throughout the world. They will dismantle the factors that contribute to low self-esteem, body dysmorphic disorder and eating disorders. The panelists will share their professional experience and unique perspective on the media’s treatment of the body.

Panelists will include Sunny Gold, deputy editor of Redbook magazine, author of Food: The Good Girl’s Drug and founder of HealthyGirl.org; Elisa Fischer, a registered dietitian and instructor of nutrition sciences at Dominican; Leslie Goldman, blogger at iVillage; Abby Zupancic, fashion show coordinator at Zzazz Productions; and Andrea Wozniak, a Ford Fashion Model.
