Dominican University presents Latino Film Festival

Dominican University will serve as the west suburban satellite site for the 27th Annual Chicago Latino Film Festival by screening Habana Eva on Thursday, April 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the Priory Campus Auditorium, 7200 W. Division Street, River Forest.

Habana Eva tells the story of a young seamstress, trapped in a sweatshop job in Havana, Cuba, who dreams of designing beautiful dresses. Frustrated by her lazy, though adorable Cuban boyfriend, she meets a sophisticated ex-patriot Cuban-Venezuelan who dazzles her with a glamorous future. After many deceptions and surprises, Eva has to choose between the two men she loves. Her choice is also a metaphor of Cuba’s options for the future.

This 2010 film from Cuba and Venezuela won the Best Picture Award at the New York International Latino Film Festival in 2010. The director, Fina Torres, also directed the 2000 film Woman on Top, which starred Penelope Cruz. Visit www.habanaeva.com to get more information about the film and to watch a trailer.
