Oak Park Arms Book Club discusses discusses Kathryn Stockett's The Help

The Oak Park Arms Book Club will discuss Kathryn Stockett's The Help at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, in the dining room at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. Anyone – residents and the public - with an interest in discussing good books is invited.

Author Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another. The women are suffocating within the gender and racist lines that define their town and their times. And sometimes lines are made to be crossed.

The Help is a deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope.

Stockett was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. After graduating from the University of Alabama with a degree in English and Creative Writing, she moved to New York City where she worked in magazine publishing and marketing for nine years. She currently lives in Atlanta with her husband and daughter. The Help is her first novel.

The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay - a weekend, a week, a month or longer.

Club meetings are free and open to the public. Call Jill Wagner at 708-386-4040 or visit http://www.oakparkarms.com.
