Reader’s Theatre show: 'Giants of the Valley'

The public is invited to a very special event – a Reader’s Theatre production of “Giants of the Valley” - written and produced by Oak Park’s Redd Griffin, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave.

A cultural historian, Redd Griffin is vice chairman of the Community Advisory Board of WTTW, an advisory board member of the Illinois State Historical Society and the Ernest Hemingway Foundation, and a founding member of the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust. In addition, he is a former representative in the Illinois General Assembly.

“Giants of the Valley” is set in 1962 in Lake Cityland. It’s a thrilling drama about a politically connected developer, grandiose commercial plans, a haunting past and a relationship with an outspoken female reporter.

“It’s always a treat to have Redd with us,” said Desi Vasquez, social director at the Oak Park Arms. “His knowledge is so diverse. We’re all looking forward to seeing his play.”

Members of the acting ensemble are Jay Champelli, Kevin Bry, Mary Jo Griffin, Lanny Lutz, Harold Rohlfing, L.C. Satterfield, Tim Gamble, Redd Griffin, and classical guitarist Paul Henry.

The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay - a weekend, a week, a month or longer.

The performance is free and open to the public. Call Jill Wagner at 708-386-4040.
