Women's Day at Loyola

The Loyola Center for Fitness will host a free women’s health and wellness day on Saturday, Oct. 22. Women's Day is designed to help women take time for themselves to revitalize their mind and body.

“This event provides women with an opportunity to make their health and wellness a priority,” said Josh Carlson, executive director at the Loyola Center for Fitness. “It also offers valuable information and tools to help women care for themselves and their families.”

Women's Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Loyola Center for Fitness on the medical center campus, 2160 S. First Ave., Maywood. Activities will include health screenings, exhibits and seminars on topics such as managing anxiety disorders and spirituality.

Women's Day will feature experts in aesthetics, fitness, nutrition, endocrinology and osteoporosis care. Attendees also will have the opportunity to undergo blood-pressure screenings.

Elizabeth Berg will give the keynote lecture. She is a New York Times best-selling author and Oak Park resident whose work has been translated into 27 languages. Her writing has earned numerous awards and been featured in Oprah’s Book Club. Berg also was given the AMC Cancer Research Center’s Illuminator Award for increasing awareness about breast cancer.

Women’s Day speakers include:

10 a.m. – Loyola psychiatrist Aparna Sharma, MD, will discuss how to manage anxiety disorders in women.

11:00 a.m. – Author and spiritual teacher Linda Howe-Ebright will present, “Soul Food: Nourishing Ourselves through Simple Spiritual Practices.”

Noon – Keynote speaker Elizabeth Berg, RN, will discuss how everything she learned about life came from her nursing days.

The Loyola Center for Fitness has been ranked the No. 1 fitness center by the Chicago Tribune Reader's Poll. This state-of-the-art facility has premium locker room amenities and degreed, certified professionals. The center will waive enrollment fees for people who become members on Women's Day.
