WOMEN'S WORK: A CELEBRATION OF ART MADE BY WOMEN

The Oak Park-River Forest Community Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago welcomes all to the opening coffee and richly illustrated lecture by art historian Jeff Nigro.

He incorporates examples in a variety of media, many from the collections of the Art Institute.  Included are works by such famous names as Mary Cassatt and Georgia O'Keefe as well as many lesser-known and anonymous women who have enriched the artistic heritage of humanity.

Throughout history, women artists have faced great struggles for opportunity and recognition.  On the other hand, in many cultures certain types of art are considered the special or exclusive province of woman, and recent studies have taken their work more seriously.
